    Color Character:
Heartwood varies from a light tan to a darker, yellowish-brown while the less prevalent sapwood is much lighter. A premier hardwood, both in the U.S. and abroad. Widely used in architectural woodworking and furniture manufacture. Highly figured, even more textured than Red Oak and somewhat easier to work. Often, rift-sawn for a straight or "comb" grain effect, or quarter-sawn for a straight grain with highly prominent "flake."
    Veneer Cut:
    Rift Cut -
Rift-cut veneer is produced in the various species of Oak. Oak has medullary ray cells, which radiate from the center of the log like the spokes of a wheel. The rift, or comb grain effect, is obtained by slicing slightly across the medullary rays. This accentuates the vertical grain and minimizes the flake.
Due to the nature of wood movement, shrinkage and expansion are possible. Wood is a product of nature, and as such, no two pieces are alike to start with, while the same wood growing in different locales can vary greatly even though it is the exact same species.
There are many factors that influence the color, grain and appearance of natural wood veneer so the picture you see on our website is a representative sample of that species of veneer. The veneer you receive can be slightly different in color and grain appearance because each tree growing in nature is unique unto itself. Another reason for a difference in color is that you are viewing a sample picture on a digital computer monitor and colors will not reproduce the same on all monitors.
