Harrodsburg chert, hand picked from north central Kentucky. An oolitic material composed entirely of tiny fossils and pieces, usually crinoids. Tan, grey, blue and white in this box, one 9 lb tan boulder that appears really solid and another nice size chunk of tan. The rest of the pieces are nice knappable slabs 1-2" thick. Medium to coarse grain. It is not glassy whatsoever, but totally granular. lt is a bedded tabular chert and breaks and fractures into blocks and sheets. Only higher quality slabs and pieces selected, fractured pieces rejected, but expect variability as with any knapping stone, not all may be usable. Turns to beautiful pinks and reds when heat treated, with a nice waxy quality and improved workability. I've always thought well made artifacts of this stuff look "molded" instead of flaked, flake scars can be almost non-existent. I've sold a lot of Muldraugh chert lately, this is a lot harder to find than it, especially solid pieces. It outcrops directly above the Muldraugh and integrades with it some. A widely used material throughout the Midwest and Southeast and easily identifiable. What you see in pictures is what you get, it's the only box of this I have to offer right now. Slightly shy of 25 Lbs without the box. Thanks for looking!
