Description
Early Flint Knapping by George Eklund of Independence, Missouri. This was self taught and learned by finding Authentic Points and then trying to duplicate them. Exactly. Trial and mostly Error. This is a brown chalcedony of unknown origin. Possibly western Nebraska panhandle area. This was considered NOT Perfect and never finished the Clovis. An improvement over the many broken Folsoms during fluting trials.
I was watching as this was being made. A 1970's experiment. Later Clovis and Folsom points were... perfected. This one was not.
(Comments from a previously posted Fluting experiments. This point still has the Flute base 'nub' for the process of fluting. Terminology is mine.)
I would watch. When the Clovis or Folsom Blank was made... then ready to Flute... it was also a learning process. These were late 1960's, early 1970's. I have had them for a long time but never wrote down when. Independence, Missouri.
When a Flute went 'wrong', it was immediate. When the blank shattered in the process, he would toss them onto the yard. He discovered a 'technique' that worked... and perfected it. Simple and most likely as the Clovis and Folsom knappers learned.
I picked these up that day, Different materials, heat treated, non heat treated, nodules, blanking... a lot of blood spilled, and flakes flying. I had no talent, but he started at 15 walking with me in Missouri plowed corn fields. He is now in his 70's.
I can tell these are early experiments, as the blanks are percussion flaked and not pressure flaked edges. Edges are mostly sharp and not sanded. He probably recalls each single one. A lot of time... up to the Flute. Then... next.
If I sell these fine. If I do not, I really do not care. They may have value to someone who knows George. I rescued them. It is now your turn. These will be shipping USPS Small Carton with Tracking.
