    Description

Up for sale, a 1952 National Dynamic 8-string lap steel in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Produced by the Valco company in Chicago (home of National, Supro, Airline and others), the Dynamic steel is extremely eye-catching and unique, with an Art Deco rocketship appeal. Very similar to the New Yorker steel in shape, electronics and overall cosmetic stylings, the Dynamic looks stunning and has a tone to match its visual class. The impressive, chrome covered pickup has great punch and a sinewy, glassy twang, pushing small tube amps into moderate overdrive with good cut and rich harmonic content.
The transparent, lucite playing surface is in fantastic shape, with an Art Deco multi-colored winged geometric position markers on the three octave range. The headstock features the original Kluson tuning machines with large metal tulip buttons and National-embossed covers. The large molded plastic cover is intact over the headstock too, anchored by two Tele switch tip-style screw-on plastic nuts. The badge on the back has an X-prefix serial number.
All of the electronics work as they should, with original Stackpole pots which date to the 6th week of 1952. Controls include a Master Volume and three-way rotary Tone switch (settings are Brilliant, Dark, and Darker). The knobs are era correct, and the original bridge cover is present, anchored with the same Tele-style nuts utilized on the headstock. The original phono connector on the side pre-dates when National steels used a conventional 1/4" jack, and a brand new cable with a proper screw-on end is included. The chrome plating on the oversized pickup is positively gleaming, and the gold National shield badge is equally as clean.
Exceedingly well-kept, the two-tone nitro lacquer gloss finish exhibits just a few tiny marks on the central third of the body, with some minor dings on the black body wings, and a sliver of finish chipping on the back bass side edge. The felt on the back of the steel is nearly flawless.
The original hardshell case has the same brown mottled smooth brown material seen on late '50s Gibson cases with large faux alligator ends, the original leather handle, functional latches, and a red velvet plush interior.
